I was pleasantly surprised with Iron Man. My son enjoyed it, too, and I'd certainly be waiting in line for any sequel.

Iron Man was a well rounded hero flick... its makers drop some pretty obvious sequel hints; i'm thinking the next one should be equally great (i hope)

Ooops. I forgot all about American Splendor. That would probably go in slot number two on my list. I even read the graphic novels that it was based on. Funny how things slip my mind.

I've never seen History of Violence, and I didn't like Road to Perdition at all. I've not yet seen 30 Days of Night. I found Superman Returns really dull.

And I'd like to hear more about this mystical bowel movement of yours. More interesting then Ben Afleck? Well, maybe that's not so hard to believe.

Mmmm... you had me until DAREDEVIL. I've had bowel movements that were more interesting.

I don't know that I'd rank them quite the same way... BATMAN BEGINS would probably be number one (even though it's an origins story), SUPERMAN RETURNS would replace DD at the 10 spot, and I'd have to find a place near the top for both SIN CITY and AMERICAN SPLENDOR.

Other comic book movies you missed, either upcoming or from days gone by: SPEED RACER (5/9/08), FROM HELL (which was terrible), 300 (I neither loved it nor hated it), V FOR VENDETTA (fantastic), A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE (also fantastic), ROAD TO PERDITION (meh... a little slow), and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (which I loved).

P.S. I actually liked MYSTERY MEN... probably for the reasons you thought it was awful.

P.P.S. Not to be all creepy, but I fell in love with Thora Birch in GHOST WORLD.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am commited to this book. When will it see publication? Who knows? But I am confident it will ... one day.

I've been a librarian for 15 years, worked in libraries for 16. They're great places, that's for sure. Same goes for book stores. Two of my favourite places on Earth.

Well done, Dan. Best of luck to you. I know you'll make a success out of this book. Just keep in mind, that no matter what happens, if this book doesn't reach the hands of millions of readers, or make you a bucketload of money. Don't ever consider that a failure. Getting the book finished is a success. Getting it published is a success. Anything more than that is icing on the cake. Always believe in that.

You got that right, Rob. I hate leaving a bookstore emptyhanded. When I'm feeling especially weak, I'll head to the library instead.

The bookstore and I have a dysfunctional relationship. I go and it takes all my money and I swear I won't go back for a while. But then I do go back, thinking, "It'll be different this time. It's changed. And I love the bookstore."

What happens?

It just takes all my money again.

Thanks, Rob. The 'never giving up' thing is so important. It's easy to get discouraged. It's hard to be persistent.
